SRINAGAR, Nov 20: Jammu and Kashmir authorities have carried out a comprehensive inspection of lockers belonging to doctors and medical staff at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag, officials said on Thursday.
The drive, which began on Wednesday, is part of heightened security measures following the recent Delhi blast and the discovery of arms and ammunition in the “white-collar” terror module. Officials said the exercise also aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper use of hospital infrastructure.
The inspections gained urgency after an AK-47 rifle was recovered earlier this month from the locker of Dr. Adeel Rather at GMC Anantnag. His arrest led to the unravelling of a “white-collar” terror module involving multiple doctors and the seizure of approximately 2,900 kg of explosive material.
In coordination with hospital authorities, the Anantnag police conducted a meticulous locker check. Unclaimed or improperly documented lockers were identified, and officials instructed the hospital administration to update records to prevent potential misuse.
