J&K GOES FULLY DIGITAL: GOVT. SERVICES NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

In a significant move, the state of J&K has decided to fully embrace digitalization, with all government services now to be made available only through online networks. Chief Secretary J&K instructed the Commissioner Secretary for IT to ensure that all government services are made available online, with no services remaining offline. Citizens will no longer need to visit government offices in order to access services. The establishment of control rooms in their respective departments, as well as at the HoD level and in the offices of Deputy Commissioners, in order to provide support to the public shall be set up. An awareness campaign and conducting of programs in educational institutions and at the Panchayat level, to ensure that citizens are informed and educated about the changes and services which shall be made available. Over 400 services have already been offered online across all departments, many of which are integrated with the quality check and feedback-seeking mechanism of RAS as per reports. Additionally, these services are being made available on the digital portals of e-UNNAT, Service Plus, and Digi Locker, for easy and free access to the general public.

In other words, we may say the digital era in J&K has officially begun. With the government’s push towards digitization, Jammu and Kashmir will rapidly move towards a more connected and technologically advanced future. This shift towards digital and its services will bring with it a host of opportunities and challenges, and it is important that we understand both in order to fully reap the benefits of this transition. One of the biggest opportunities that the digital era presents is the potential for increased economic growth. The rise of digital technologies and services will lead to the creation of new industries and business models, and it will be made it easier for small and medium-sized enterprises to compete with larger companies. In addition, the digitization of government services has made it easier for citizens to access information and services, which has the potential to increase transparency and reduce corruption. Another opportunity that the digital era presents is the potential for increased social and economic inclusion. With its capacity to connect individuals in ways that were previously impractical, digital technologies and services have the potential to close the gap between urban and rural locations as well as between various socioeconomic categories. This can lead to greater access to education and healthcare, as well as increased participation in the economy. However, with the many opportunities that the digital era presents, there are also several challenges that must be addressed. One of the biggest challenges is the digital divide, which refers to the gap between those who have access to digital technologies and those who do not. This divide can exacerbate existing social and economic inequalities, and it is important that steps are taken to ensure that everyone has access to the benefits of the digital era.

Another challenge is the issue of digital security. As more and more of our personal and financial information is stored online, it is becoming increasingly important to ensure that this information is protected from cyber-attacks or otherwise. This requires not only technological solutions but also a cultural shift toward greater awareness and understanding of digital security issues. The issue of digital literacy is also a last consideration. As the digital era progresses, it is becoming increasingly important for people to have the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the digital world. This includes not only technical skills but also the ability to critically evaluate and understand the information that is available online.

In conclusion, the digital era in J&K has officially begun, and with it comes a host of opportunities and challenges. It is important that we understand both in order to fully reap the benefits of this transition. The government’s push towards digitization and online services will definitely lead to increase economic growth, increased social and economic inclusion, and ease of access to government services in a time-bound manner, but it is also important to address the digital divide, digital security, and digital literacy for the benefits of the digital era to be inclusive for all. It is important that we work together, government, private sector, and citizens, to ensure that the digital era and its services are one that benefits everyone and leaves no one behind.
