Yashpaul Nirmal honoured at Late Madan Lal Sharma’s 74th birth anniversary event

Jammu, 23-04-2026: Marking the 74th birth anniversary of former Member of Parliament, Shri Madan Lal Sharma, a vibrant village fair was organized at N.D. Palace, Thangar on April 22, 2026. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from locals, officials, and media representatives, reflecting a strong sense of community and cultural pride.

On the occasion, Sh. Satish Sharma, Honourable Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science and Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports, and ARI and Trainings, Jammu and Kashmir Government, felicitated eminent Dogri writer, children’s author, translator, and cultural activist Yashpaul Nirmal. He was honoured for being conferred with the prestigious J&K Government Award 2026 in the field of Dogri Literature.

Founder of Dogri Bhasha Academy, Jammu, and a prolific author of more than 90 books, Yashpaul Nirmal has made outstanding contributions to the promotion and preservation of Dogri language and literature. His work, particularly in children’s literature and translation, has earned national acclaim and brought wider recognition to regional languages.

Over the years, Nirmal has received several notable honours, including the National Translation Prize (2014) for Mian Dido, the Pyari Devi Ghasi Ram Sihag Children’s Literature Award (2018) for Chhuttiyan, the Siya Ram Sehgal Award (2020) for 1008 Dogri Haiku, and the Dr. Gargi Gupta Dwivagish Award (2023–24) for his exceptional contribution to translation, besides the J&K Government Award 2026.

Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Satish Sharma lauded Nirmal’s lifelong dedication to Dogri literature, describing him as a true ambassador of the region’s rich cultural and linguistic heritage. He noted that Nirmal’s work continues to inspire young writers and strengthen the literary fabric of Jammu and Kashmir. He further remarked that Yashpaul Nirmal is a pride of the Chamb constituency and that the award is a well-deserved recognition of his invaluable contribution to the promotion and development of the Dogri language.
