Srinagar, November 10: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced an increase in the upper age limit for candidates applying to the 2024 Combined Competitive Examination (CCE), providing a significant boost to aspirants across various categories. According to an official order, the new upper age limit for candidates applying under open merit has been set at 35 years.
The relaxed age limits are designed to make the examination more accessible, especially for those who have faced delays in educational and career opportunities due to socio-economic factors. The revised limits will apply across the board, with candidates from reserved categories and those currently serving in government jobs now eligible to apply until the age of 37. Additionally, physically challenged applicants are granted an upper age limit of 38 years, allowing them added flexibility in pursuing government employment.
The government’s decision is seen as a progressive step toward inclusive opportunities, aiming to accommodate a wider pool of candidates amid high competition for government posts in the region. A senior official commented on the development, stating that the new limits acknowledge the unique challenges faced by candidates in Jammu and Kashmir, including periods of disruption that have hindered educational and employment progress.
The CCE, a gateway to various prestigious government positions within Jammu and Kashmir, demands rigorous preparation, and officials expect the relaxed age criteria to attract a substantial number of aspirants. “This move aims to ensure that eligible candidates are not barred from participating due to age constraints, particularly those who have had to delay their exam preparations,” the official noted.
The increase in the age threshold reflects the government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for residents of Jammu and Kashmir and addressing the employment aspirations of diverse segments, including those in remote and underserved areas. Aspirants have welcomed the announcement, expressing gratitude for the added leeway that allows them additional time to prepare for the competitive examination.
