J&K, Feb 19 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that while the provision for Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation in local bodies is included under the Jammu and Kashmir Local Bodies Laws (Amendment) Act, 2024, no final decision has been made yet.
Responding to a query from MLA Sunil Kumar Sharma, officials stated that the 2024 amendments allow for OBC reservation in both Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
A three-member Commission, led by Justice (Retd.) Janak Raj Kotwal, has been tasked with recommending the OBC quota. The government said these recommendations are currently under review, and a final decision on implementation is pending.
