J&K Govt. departments to procure goods from local manufacturers from today

JAMMU: At the behest of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, local filters shall become operational on GeM in Jammu and Kashmir from February 25, enabling the departments to procure goods and services from the local manufacturers, one of the important components of the economic package announced recently for giving a boost to local entrepreneurship.

Local filters and MSME filters can be used together for procurements made up to Rs. 5.00 lacs from local manufacturers. For purchases above Rs. 5.00 lacs, additional terms & conditions clause can be used by the departments for restricting procurement within a geographical limit, through the process of bidding on GeM.

The significant development gained momentum following a meeting of the officials of the J&K government and GeM (Government E-Marketing) authorities to expedite its implementation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Making Local Filters operational on GeM is one of the important components of #JKEconomicPackage announced recently for promoting and giving a determined push to the growth of local entrepreneurship.#AatmaNirbharJK #PromotingLocalEntrepreneurship.

The local filters and MSME filters can be used together for procurements made up to Rs. 5 lakhs from local manufacturers. For purchases above Rs 5 lakhs, additional terms and conditions clause can be used by the departments for restricting procurement within a geographical limit, through the process of bidding on the GeM.
For creating ample awareness in this regard, Jammu and Kashmir Finance Department, in collaboration with the Industries & Commerce Department will be organizing series of workshops to train traders and manufacturers regarding steps to be followed for registration on GeM.

The special workshops shall also be held on the 3rd and 4th of March, 2021 with the participation of experts from GeM. It is expected that these steps will go a long way in addressing the demands of local manufacturers made from time to time.

The GeM team was headed by Talleen Kumar, CEO GeM, Government of India, while Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Financial Commissioner, Finance headed the team from J&K. Special Secretary (Finance), Director General (Codes), and Director, Industries and Commerce, Jammu also attended the meeting, amongst others.
