J&K Govt Hikes Children Education Allowance and Hostel Subsidy by 25% After DA Revision

JAMMU, Oct 3: In a significant relief to government employees, the Jammu and Kashmir Finance Department has announced a 25 percent hike in the Children Education Allowance (CEA) and Hostel Subsidy, following the recent enhancement of Dearness Allowance (DA) to 50 percent with effect from January 1, 2024. The move is aimed at supporting families in managing rising education costs and ensuring better access to quality education for their children.

According to the official order, the revised monthly rate for the Children Education Allowance now stands at ₹2812.50 per child. The Hostel Subsidy, which is provided to employees whose children reside in hostels away from their place of posting for educational purposes, has been increased to ₹8437.50 per month. Additionally, the CEA for Divyang (differently-abled) children has been enhanced to ₹5625 per month, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive welfare measures.

The revision aligns with the broader policy framework that mandates automatic enhancement of allowances linked to Dearness Allowance once it crosses the 50 percent threshold. Officials said the decision is expected to benefit thousands of government employees across the Union Territory, easing their financial burden amid rising educational expenses and cost of living.
