J&K Govt Orders Inquiry Into Allegations Against Social Welfare Officers in Tangmarg

Jammu, 05-03-2025: The Jammu and Kashmir government has initiated an inquiry into allegations of misconduct and irregularities involving two former officials of the Social Welfare Department in Tangmarg. Mohammad Akbar Wani, IAS, who currently serves as the Director of Social Welfare, Kashmir, has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer to investigate the matter and submit a detailed report on the allegations.

The officials under scrutiny include former Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Mehjabeen Bano and former Anganwadi Centre Supervisor Rafeeqa Akhter. While the nature of the allegations has not been officially disclosed, sources indicate that they pertain to administrative lapses and possible financial irregularities during their tenure.

The decision to launch an inquiry follows complaints from various stakeholders, including local residents and public representatives, who have raised concerns over alleged mismanagement in the implementation of welfare schemes. The government has assured that a fair and transparent investigation will be conducted, and necessary action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.

The Social Welfare Department plays a crucial role in providing assistance to vulnerable sections of society, including women, children, and senior citizens. Any lapse or misconduct within the department can have serious implications for beneficiaries who rely on government support. Officials have emphasized that the administration remains committed to ensuring accountability and transparency in welfare programs.

The appointed Inquiry Officer is expected to examine all aspects of the allegations, gather relevant records, and submit a comprehensive report to the government in a time-bound manner. If the charges against the officials are proven, strict disciplinary action will be taken as per the rules and regulations governing public service in Jammu and Kashmir.
