J&K govt sets up multi-tier committees for smooth conduct of 8th Economic Census

Jammu, 12-02-2025: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has taken a significant step toward ensuring the seamless execution of the 8th Economic Census by sanctioning the formation of multiple coordination committees at various administrative levels across the Union Territory. The initiative aims to streamline data collection, enhance inter-departmental coordination, and ensure the accuracy of economic statistics crucial for policy formulation and developmental planning.

According to an official government order, the newly established committees include the Union Territory Level Coordination Committee (UTLCC), which will oversee the overall execution of the census across Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring compliance with national guidelines and addressing any logistical or procedural challenges. Additionally, Regional Level Coordination Committees (RLCCs) have been constituted separately for Srinagar and Jammu to facilitate effective supervision and coordination at the regional level. These committees will play a key role in monitoring the progress of census activities, resolving any operational hurdles, and liaising between the UT administration and district authorities.

To further enhance the efficiency of data collection at the grassroots level, District Level Coordination Committees (DLCCs) have also been formed in each district. These committees will be responsible for on-ground implementation, coordination with local authorities, and addressing any concerns raised by enumerators or respondents. By establishing a structured hierarchy of committees, the government aims to ensure transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity in conducting the census, which serves as a vital tool for assessing the economic landscape of the Union Territory.

The 8th Economic Census holds immense significance as it will provide comprehensive insights into the economic activities of households, enterprises, and various sectors, forming the basis for evidence-based policymaking. Conducted periodically, the Economic Census captures data on employment patterns, business establishments, and sectoral contributions to the economy, thereby aiding in the formulation of targeted development programs. The Jammu and Kashmir Government’s proactive measures in setting up coordination committees reflect its commitment to conducting the census with precision, ensuring that the findings accurately represent the economic realities of the region.
