Srinagar, June 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department has intensified preparations across the Union Territory to ensure healthcare facilities remain fully equipped during the upcoming monsoon season. Hospitals, primary health centres and district health institutions have been directed to strengthen emergency response systems and maintain adequate medical supplies to tackle seasonal health challenges.
According to officials, all government hospitals have been instructed to stock sufficient quantities of essential medicines, intravenous fluids, life-saving drugs and emergency medical equipment. Health authorities have also reviewed the availability of ambulances, oxygen support systems and trained medical personnel to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
District administrations have been asked to coordinate closely with health officials to monitor flood-prone and landslide-vulnerable areas where medical assistance may be required at short notice. Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) have been placed on alert to respond swiftly to disease outbreaks or emergencies arising from heavy rainfall.
The Health Department has strengthened disease surveillance to detect cases of waterborne and vector-borne illnesses, including diarrhoea, typhoid, hepatitis and dengue. Medical officers have been instructed to report suspected outbreaks immediately so that preventive measures can be initiated without delay.
Public health campaigns are also being launched across districts to educate residents about safe drinking water, personal hygiene, food safety and sanitation. Officials have advised people to consume boiled or treated water, avoid stagnant water around homes and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms of seasonal illnesses develop.
Health workers are visiting rural and remote villages to spread awareness about preventive healthcare measures while ensuring that vulnerable communities have access to essential medical services. Special focus has been placed on children, senior citizens and pregnant women, who are considered more susceptible to seasonal diseases.
Hospitals have been directed to establish dedicated emergency control rooms capable of coordinating with district administrations, disaster management authorities and ambulance services. Medical institutions have also been asked to review contingency plans for handling increased patient loads during adverse weather conditions.
Officials said the administration remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services throughout the monsoon season. Regular inspections will continue to assess preparedness levels, while health teams will remain on standby to respond promptly to any public health emergency across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Health Department has appealed to citizens to follow official advisories, maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and cooperate with healthcare workers in preventing the spread of seasonal diseases. Authorities expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between government departments and the public would help minimise health risks during the rainy season.
