J&K Orders Urgent Probe Into Alleged Adulterated Eggs After MLA Flags Health Risk

Adulterated Eggs Scare: FCS&CA Directs Legal Metrology To Verify Claims Immediately

Srinagar, Dec 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has initiated a swift inquiry into serious allegations of adulterated eggs being sold in local markets, following public health concerns raised by a legislator. The move comes after MLA Tanvir Sadiq posted multiple alerts on social media, warning that the eggs in question may contain harmful or potentially carcinogenic substances, posing a significant risk to consumers across the Union Territory.

According to an official communication issued by the office of the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), the government took immediate cognizance of the claims after the legislator expressed deep concern over the possible circulation of unsafe eggs. His social media posts highlighted disturbing reports of adulteration, prompting widespread public alarm and calls for urgent intervention.

Responding to the issue, the Minister for FCS&CA has directed the Controller of the Legal Metrology Department to conduct an urgent and comprehensive investigation into the allegations. The department has been instructed to verify the authenticity of the reports, examine samples wherever necessary, and trace the source of any contaminated stock if the claims are substantiated.

Officials confirmed that the inquiry will focus on determining whether adulterated eggs have indeed entered the supply chain and, if so, identifying the individuals or networks responsible for their distribution. The Minister has sought a detailed fact-finding report within two days, underscoring the seriousness with which the administration views any threat to food safety and public health.
