Jammu, Nov 13: In a significant crackdown, Jammu Police arrested a selection-grade constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police after heroin and cash were seized from his possession. The constable, identified as Mohammad Mukhtiyar, hailing from Geloti, Udhampur, and currently residing in Beli Charana, Jammu, was apprehended on the premises of Government Medical College, Jammu.
Acting on credible intelligence, a police team, in coordination with an executive magistrate, launched a search operation, leading to the recovery of 15 grams of heroin and Rs. 9,000 in cash from the accused. Officials reported that Mukhtiyar, who serves in the 12th Battalion of Armed Police in Zewan, Srinagar, had been allegedly peddling narcotics within the college premises as part of an organized drug syndicate.
Following his arrest, the constable has been suspended. According to police sources, Mukhtiyar was part of a drug trafficking network targeting youth in the Jammu area, luring them into addiction for profit. This syndicate’s activities have reportedly contributed to a rise in overdose cases in the region, intensifying community concerns.
The case marks the third recent First Information Report (FIR) under the police’s Zero Tolerance policy against drug trafficking. Earlier, on November 6, another police constable and his two wives were arrested with 33 grams of heroin in Jammu’s Janipur area, highlighting the ongoing internal efforts to combat narcotics distribution within law enforcement ranks.
