J&K Police Detain Habitual Criminal Under PSA in Kathua to Curb Anti-Social Activities

Jammu, Dec 9: In a major action to maintain law and order, Jammu and Kashmir police detained Pradeep Ambedkariya, wanted for his involvement in multiple criminal and anti-social activities, under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in Kathua district on Tuesday. Ambedkariya, named in four FIRs registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) over the past two years, has been lodged in Udhampur district jail, officials said.

According to a police spokesperson, the accused has a history of illegal activities, including spreading provocative speeches and uploading derogatory content on social media targeting Hindu deities, which hurt religious sentiments. The four FIRs list charges under sections including 299 (outraging religious feelings), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 191(2) (rioting), 270 (public nuisance), 351(2) (intimidation), and 352 (intentional insults to provoke breach of peace).

The spokesperson added that additional adverse reports were registered against Ambedkariya at Police Station Kathua. A dossier on his activities was prepared and sent to the district magistrate of Kathua, who subsequently issued a PSA detention warrant to prevent further illegal acts.

Officials noted that Ambedkariya had been on the run for months following his social media posts, which caused public outrage. The PSA detention ensures that his activities are curtailed and law and order in the district is maintained.
