J&K Police Foil Attempt to Smuggle Phones to Doda Jail Inmate

Two handsets seized from parcel during routine inspection at Bhaderwah district prison

Jammu, Mar 7: Authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle mobile phones to a prisoner lodged in a jail in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district after two handsets were recovered from a parcel during a routine inspection on Saturday, officials said.

The recovery was made at the district jail in Bhaderwah when officials examined parcels delivered for inmates as part of standard security checks.

According to officials, the package was addressed to a prisoner currently detained under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act for the past month. The inmate is a resident of the Hajin area in Bandipora district of north Kashmir.

Preliminary findings suggest that the parcel had been booked from Pulwama district in south Kashmir before being sent to the prison facility.

After the suspicious items were discovered, jail authorities seized the phones and alerted the police for further action.

A case has been registered and an investigation has been launched to identify those involved in the attempt to sneak the devices into the correctional facility, officials added.
