SRINAGAR, May 16: Police on Saturday carried out coordinated search operations at several locations across north Kashmir’s Sopore area as part of an investigation into activities linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), officials said.

The searches were conducted in more than 15 places across Baramulla district, including Jamia Qadeem, Naseem Bagh, Krankshivan, Tarzoo, Amargarh, Warpora, Bomai and Boitingoo.

Officials said the operation was undertaken in connection with a case registered at Sopore police station under Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

During the raids, police recovered material and documents allegedly related to the proscribed organisation. The seized items have been taken into custody for examination as part of the ongoing probe.

According to officials, the searches were conducted after obtaining warrants from the designated UAPA court and were carried out in the presence of executive magistrates and independent witnesses while following legal procedures.

Police said the operation is part of continuing efforts to trace individuals suspected of maintaining links with banned groups and networks involved in unlawful activities. Further investigation is underway.
