JAMMU, Jan 10: Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district recovered an arms consignment, reportedly dropped by a drone from across the border in Pakistan, officials said on Saturday.
The recovered package contained two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds, and a grenade. The seizure comes amid heightened security measures to prevent any threat to the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
A joint team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police launched a search operation in Paloora village of Ghagwal late Friday night, following intelligence about suspected drone activity from across the International Border.
The team located a packet wrapped in yellow tape near a stream. It was opened with the assistance of a bomb disposal squad, leading to the recovery of the weapons. Officials said the operation was still ongoing when the latest reports were received.
Authorities are continuing investigations to trace the origin and intended recipients of the consignment, while maintaining tight vigil along the border.
