J&K Weather Update: Mostly Dry Conditions, Light Snow Expected in North Kashmir Heights

IMD Forecasts Clear Skies Across Most Regions, Brief Snowfall Expected in Isolated Higher Areas

Srinagar, Oct 17: Jammu and Kashmir is set to witness predominantly dry weather over the next several days, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting only brief spells of very light snowfall over isolated higher reaches of north Kashmir.

The IMD forecast indicates generally dry conditions across the union territory on October 17, 19, and 20. However, weather may turn partly to generally cloudy during the afternoon or evening hours on October 18 and 21. A brief spell of very light snow is expected in isolated higher reaches of north Kashmir on October 21.

Dry conditions are expected to continue from October 22 to 23, with another possibility of light snowfall over the north Kashmir heights on October 24. From October 25 to 26, the region is likely to remain mostly dry.

Meanwhile, night temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir remained above normal. In the Kashmir division, temperatures were 1–3°C higher than average, while in the Jammu division, they were 0–2°C above seasonal norms. The hill resort of Pahalgam recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the valley at 3.8°C, and Banihal registered the lowest in the Jammu region at 6.7°C.
