Srinagar, Mar 3: In view of recent snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) on Monday issued an avalanche warning for five districts, cautioning residents about potential hazards over the next 24 hours.
According to officials, a “medium danger” level avalanche is likely to occur at elevations above 2,500 meters in the districts of Baramulla, Ganderbal, Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban. The warning comes after moderate to heavy snowfall was recorded across the region, with some areas receiving fresh snowfall on Monday.
Authorities have strongly advised residents, particularly those living in avalanche-prone zones, to take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable areas until further notice. The warning aims to prevent casualties and ensure public safety in these high-risk regions.
The JKDMA has urged people to remain alert and follow all safety protocols. In case of emergencies, residents have been directed to contact helpline number 112 for immediate assistance.
The Disaster Management Authority, in coordination with local administration and rescue teams, is closely monitoring the situation and has assured a swift response in case of any untoward incident. Residents have also been advised to stay updated with official weather advisories and cooperate with authorities to mitigate risks associated with avalanches.
