JAMMU, Feb 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Employees Joint Consultative Committee (JKEJCC) has once again raised its voice over the longstanding and critical issues affecting government employees across the region. During a press conference held today, JKEJCC Chairman, Aijaz Ahmad Khan, underscored the urgent need for the government to address various pending demands of its employees.
The press conference followed a significant meeting of the JKEJCC held on February 10 in Jammu, where key decisions were made to strengthen the organization’s advocacy efforts. Senior trade union leaders from the Jammu province were assigned important roles to ensure more active and effective representation. Vinod Sharma was appointed as the General Secretary of the JKEJCC, while Jamiat Ali Agha was named Provincial President, Jammu. Naresh Kumar was appointed Media In-Charge, and PD Singh assumed the role of Provincial Secretary for Jammu.
Addressing the media, Aijaz Ahmad Khan emphasized the crucial role that government employees play in the smooth functioning of any administration, stating that they are the backbone of the governance structure. However, he lamented that employees in Jammu & Kashmir often have to resort to protests just to secure their fundamental rights. Khan made it clear that the JKEJCC’s mission is not one of confrontation but a determined commitment to ensuring that employees receive their legal and constitutional entitlements.
Khan outlined several key demands that the JKEJCC is urging the government to address promptly. These include ensuring the timely release of GP Fund bills, restoring SRO 43 in its original form, increasing Medical Allowance (MA) and House Rent Allowance (HRA), and reinstating all government employees under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). The JKEJCC also calls for the regularization of all temporary employees, including FPS workers and other laborers, as well as the clearance of pending dues for retired employees.
Other pressing demands include amending the inter-district recruitment rules to include a transfer clause, carrying out the reorganization of government departments, and regularizing employees working under various Centrally Sponsored Schemes. The JKEJCC also advocates for economic stability for Anganwadi and ASHA workers by either regularizing their employment or bringing them under the Minimum Wage Act. Moreover, it calls for providing leave salary benefits to teachers upon retirement and formulating a permanent employment policy for Seasonal Teachers.
Khan further highlighted the need for the establishment of Departmental Promotion Committees to expedite promotions, regularization of Aayas, Cook-cum-Helpers, and CPWs in the Education Department, and addressing the salary disparities among employees in various departments, including the Police Department. Additionally, the JKEJCC is pressing for the revision of grade pay for Class IV/MTS employees and the rehabilitation of over-aged college contractual lecturers in the Higher Education Department.
The JKEJCC’s leadership remains united in its resolve to ensure the welfare of all government employees, with senior leaders such as Shabir Ahmad Lango, Vinod Sharma, Khalid Mehmood, Javed Ahmad Akhoon, Rehmatullah Khan, Saleem Sagar, and Mohd Shafi Rather lending their support to the cause.
As the Jammu & Kashmir government continues to face mounting demands from its employees, the JKEJCC’s call for swift action on these critical issues serves as a timely reminder of the need for equitable treatment, fair compensation, and a strong commitment to the welfare of the workforce that supports the administration.
