Jammu, June 19: In a major enforcement action under the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district have attached properties worth over ₹2.08 crore belonging to an alleged drug trafficker.
The accused has been identified as Narayan Sharma, also known as Shunna, a resident of Vijaypur in Samba district. Officials confirmed that the action marks a significant step in the region’s continuing campaign against drug-related activities.
Assets Identified and Seized
According to officials, the attached properties include a residential house valued at approximately ₹48.50 lakh, a vehicle worth around ₹10 lakh, and land holdings estimated at nearly ₹1.50 crore. The cumulative value of the seized assets stands at about ₹2.08 crore.
Authorities stated that the action was taken after detailed investigation established prima facie evidence indicating that the properties were acquired through proceeds generated from illicit narcotics trade.
Legal Action Under NDPS Provisions
The enforcement measure was executed under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This provision allows authorities to identify and attach assets believed to be derived from illegal drug trafficking activities.
Police officials noted that investigative findings strongly suggested a link between the accused’s financial gains and the illegal drug trade, prompting immediate legal action.
The attachment process is part of a broader effort to dismantle financial networks supporting narcotics operations in the region.
Ongoing Investigation and Custody Status
Authorities further confirmed that Narayan Sharma is currently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu. He is being detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act.
Officials added that further legal proceedings are underway in accordance with established procedures, and additional investigations are continuing to trace any wider network connections or associated individuals.
Intensified Anti-Drug Campaign in J&K
The action is part of the larger “Drug-Free J&K” initiative, under which law enforcement agencies have stepped up surveillance, arrests, and financial crackdowns on suspected drug traffickers.
Police officials emphasized that targeting assets derived from illegal activity is a key strategy aimed at weakening the economic foundations of narcotics networks.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict vigilance and continuing coordinated operations to curb the spread of drug trafficking across the Union Territory.
