Tamil Nadu, Feb 26 : Malayalam actor Kalidas Jayaram, who recently starred in the theatrical release Ashakal Aayiram, voiced strong criticism of the Hindi film Param Sundari, featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra. Speaking on the YouTube channel Irfan’s View alongside his father Jayaram, Kalidas said, “Param Sundari was that one bad film I watched recently. I will say it openly they made a mockery in their portrayal of our culture and traditions. That’s how I felt. It was terrible.”
Released in August 2025 under the Maddock Films banner, Param Sundari follows Janhvi Kapoor’s character, a Malayali woman who falls in love with a Punjabi entrepreneur. Directed by Tushar Jalota, the film is largely set in Kerala and incorporates local customs and cultural elements into its narrative.
Despite a decent box office performance, the film has faced backlash online for its stereotypical depiction of Malayali culture. Kalidas’ remarks highlight ongoing concerns about the representation of regional communities in mainstream Hindi cinema.
