Kanimozhi Slams Hindi Signage, Says Imposition Will Not Be Allowed

DMK MP Says Party Will Continue Resisting ‘Imposition’ in Non-Hindi Regions

New Delhi, Jan 30: The DMK on Thursday renewed its opposition to the use of Hindi in non-Hindi regions, with party MP Kanimozhi objecting to the prominence of Hindi on the signboard at Chennai Park railway station.

Responding to a social media post showing the station signage, Kanimozhi accused the BJP led central government of promoting Hindi at the cost of regional languages. Writing in Tamil on X, she said the use of Hindi had begun in Kallakurichi and had now extended to Chennai Poonthottam, adding that the DMK would continue to resist what it considers linguistic imposition.

The language issue has long been a point of contention between the DMK and the Centre, with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and party leaders consistently opposing policies they believe undermine linguistic diversity.

With Tamil Nadu preparing for Assembly elections to its 234-member legislature, language politics is expected to remain a key electoral theme. Similar political undercurrents are also emerging in neighbouring Puducherry, where Tamil is one of the official languages and Assembly polls are due.
