Mumbai, Dec 26 : Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan and Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran have officially wrapped up shooting for their upcoming investigative crime thriller Daayra. Directed by National Award winning filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, the film explores the blurred lines between morality and justice through a thought-provoking narrative.
Jointly produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, Daayra is slated for a theatrical release in 2026.
According to the makers, the film moves beyond the conventions of a typical whodunit. The story centres on a single disturbing incident and examines how it triggers a chain of reactions that ripple through society, shaping public opinion and challenging established notions of right and wrong.
Meghna Gulzar has described Daayra as a reflection on society and its institutions, designed to provoke questions rather than offer easy answers.
Sharing the wrap up moment, Prithviraj took to Instagram and wrote, “That’s a wrap on #Daayra… The story we’ve lived on set will soon come alive for audiences everywhere. Grateful for this journey and can’t wait for you to witness it on screen in cinemas in 2026.”
Kareena had earlier offered fans a glimpse from the first day of shooting, calling Daayra her 68th film. “Day 1. 68th film Daayra with the most amazing Meghna Gulzar and Prithviraj… Send love and blessings,” she had written.
The film’s shoot also witnessed a special visit by veteran lyricist Gulzar, who spent time with the team and added a creative presence on set.
Expressing his excitement at the start of filming, Prithviraj had described the project as a story that both challenges and excites. Meghna Gulzar, too, shared notes during production highlighting the film’s exploration of “blurred and crossed lines.”
Anticipation around Daayra has been high since its announcement, with Kareena calling herself a “director’s actor” and expressing her eagerness to collaborate with Meghna Gulzar and Prithviraj. Prithviraj has also said the story stayed with him from the moment he first heard it.
