SRINAGAR, Jan 23: Jammu and Kashmir Police have rolled out extensive, multi-tier security measures across the Kashmir Valley ahead of Republic Day celebrations, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V K Birdi said on Friday.
Addressing reporters after paying homage at the Balidan Stambh in Srinagar, IGP Birdi said comprehensive security planning has been undertaken to ensure that all Republic Day events are conducted smoothly and without incident.
He said the main Republic Day functions will be organised at the district level, where designated chief guests will take the salute during ceremonial parades. In Srinagar, the principal celebration will take place at Bakshi Stadium and is expected to witness participation from police personnel, school students and members of the public.
The IGP said that security deployment has been strengthened across the Valley, with special emphasis on Srinagar city. Joint teams of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, its security wing and paramilitary forces have intensified surveillance and area domination to maintain a peaceful environment during the celebrations.
Authorities, he added, are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any attempt to disrupt public order, ensuring that Republic Day is observed in a safe and orderly manner across Kashmir.
