Jammu & Kashmir, Nov 28 : Kashmir is witnessing its coldest November since 2007, as minimum temperatures across the valley have dropped below freezing, officials reported on Friday. Srinagar recorded its coldest night of the season, with the mercury settling at -4.5°C, slightly lower than the previous night’s -4.4°C.
The night temperatures in Srinagar remain more than four degrees below the seasonal average, marking a significant chill for the region. Multiple weather stations across Kashmir reported record-low November temperatures not seen since 2007. For context, Srinagar had touched -4.8°C on November 28, 2007, while the city’s all-time lowest November temperature was -7.8°C in 1934.
Konibal in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district was the coldest recorded location last night, hitting -6°C. Qazigund saw -4.4°C, while Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded -4.8°C. Other areas included Kokernag at -1.8°C, Pahalgam at -5.5°C, and Gulmarg at -1.4°C.
The meteorological department has predicted mainly dry weather across Kashmir until December 10, with the possibility of further falls in night temperatures in the coming days.
