Srinagar, Dec 22: Recent precipitation across Kashmir has pushed up night temperatures while keeping daytime temperatures below seasonal averages, the Meteorological Department said on Monday, forecasting another round of snowfall and rain over the next 12 hours.
Officials said Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 4.0 degrees Celsius on Sunday night, which was 6.4 degrees above the seasonal normal. In contrast, the maximum temperature during the day settled at 6.0 degrees Celsius, around 3.4 degrees below normal.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the only station to record sub-zero temperatures, with the mercury dipping to minus 2.4 degrees Celsius. However, even this was about four degrees higher than the usual minimum for this time of the year at the ski resort.
Other weather stations, including Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, reported minimum temperatures ranging between 2.0 degrees Celsius and 4.4 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department said maximum temperatures across the Valley remained below normal and predicted moderate snowfall in the higher reaches, while light rain is likely in the plains during the next spell of weather activity.
