Kashmir Shivers: Pulwama & Shopian Hit –4.4°C, Zojila Plunges to –16°C

Sub zero temperatures grip Kashmir Valley Ladakh, Jammu also shiver under intense cold

Kashmir, Dec 17 : Intense cold wave conditions continued across Jammu and Kashmir, with most parts of the Kashmir Valley witnessing sub-zero night temperatures, while higher reaches faced extreme chill.

Srinagar recorded a minimum of –1.6°C, Qazigund –3.0°C, and Pahalgam –2.8°C. South Kashmir remained the coldest, with Pulwama and Shopian at –4.4°C, followed by Anantnag –4.2°C and Pampore –4.0°C. Kupwara and Bandipora registered –2.2°C, Baramulla –3.5°C, Srinagar Airport –2.6°C, and Awantipora –3.2°C. Tourist destinations Gulmarg and Sonamarg recorded 1.6°C and 0.6°C, respectively. Zojila Pass experienced extreme cold, plunging to –16.0°C.

In Jammu, temperatures were milder, with Jammu city at 9.0°C, Katra 11.1°C, Kathua 8.2°C, Banihal and Bhaderwah 3.4°C, Udhampur 3.3°C, and Rajouri at 1.8°C.

Ladakh remained under freezing conditions, with Leh at –6.3°C, Kargil –5.8°C, and Nubra Valley –5.0°C.

Weather experts forecast that cold conditions are likely to persist across the Valley and higher reaches in the coming days, with chilly nights expected to continue.
