Kashmiri Rappers Illuminate Post-Article 370 Transformation in Viral Hit ‘Badalta Kashmir’

08-12-2023 : Kashmiri rappers MC Raa (Raasiq Sheikh) and 8MR (Humaira) have captivated the online audience with their rap song “Badalta Kashmir,” emphasizing the positive changes in the valley post the abrogation of Article 370. The song, released on December 3, has gained tremendous popularity, amassing over two million views on YouTube. In the three-minute composition, the duo explores themes of religious inclusiveness, women’s freedom to choose their attire, tourist seasons, the Amarnath yatra, Srinagar Smart City, and the digital revolution. The lyrics passionately express pride in being Indian, declaring, “Tiranga is in my heart, it is my identity, Hindustan is my country.”

The artists, inspired by the observed transformation and development in Kashmir, aim to convey their feelings through the medium of hip-hop, celebrating the positive strides in the region. Raasiq Sheikh, residing in Shopian, South Kashmir, conceptualized the song and collaborated with Humaira, hailing from Ganderbal district. Despite unexpected success, the artists remain focused on the overwhelmingly positive response, with about 90% of viewers expressing appreciation for their work. The song serves as a testament to the power of music in conveying societal narratives and fostering a sense of unity and pride among the youth in Kashmir.
