Jammu, 17-02-2025: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed profound grief over the mysterious deaths of two men in a remote village of Kathua district, assuring a thorough investigation into the incident. The bodies of Roshan Lal, 45, and Shamsher, 37, were discovered on the banks of a stream in Batheri village, Billawar, on Sunday, with preliminary findings indicating that both had been strangulated.
Taking to social media, Abdullah conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, stating, “Deeply anguished by the tragic death of two persons at Billawar, Kathua. My thoughts and prayers are with their families during this difficult time. My office is in touch with the local MLA, and the concerned officers have been asked to investigate the cause of these deaths.”
Local authorities have already initiated legal proceedings, with the Station House Officer (SHO) of Billawar Police Station, Jitender Singh, confirming that a murder case has been registered. Investigators are working on multiple angles, including the possibility of a terror-related motive, given the history of militant activities in the region.
Kathua, particularly Billawar, has been on high alert due to previous security threats. Last year, the area witnessed several terror-related incidents, including a deadly attack on an army patrol that claimed the lives of five soldiers. Security agencies are now leaving no stone unturned in determining whether this recent tragedy has any links to insurgent activities.
As the probe unfolds, authorities remain committed to ensuring justice for the victims while reinforcing security measures to prevent such incidents.
