JAMMU,19-12-2023 : Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, today strongly condemned Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee for his actions outside Parliament, describing them as a “shameful disrespect” to the high constitutional office of Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The incident occurred during an opposition protest, where Mr. Banerjee was seen animatedly imitating the Vice President’s mannerisms and gestures while a phone camera, reportedly held by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, captured the scene.
In a statement issued here today, Kavinder stated, “Such crass and juvenile behaviour towards the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha is an insult not just to Mr. Dhankhar personally, but to the very institution of Parliament and the democratic fabric of our nation. This is not mere political dissent, it is a display of utter disregard for decorum and the dignity of high offices.”
The senior BJP leader said this appalling act was further compounded by the fact that it was recorded and seemingly encouraged by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who held the phone camera throughout the incident. By condoning such disrespect, Rahul Gandhi has shown a blatant disregard for parliamentary decorum and undermined the authority of the Rajya Sabha, he added.
Kavinder further criticized the Congress party for allegedly sharing the video on its official Instagram account, stating, “It is deeply disappointing that the Congress is actively promoting such disrespectful conduct. This only exposes their hypocrisy and their desperation to score cheap political points.”
The former Deputy Chief Minister demanded an apology from both TMC MP and Rahul Gandhi, claiming that their actions undermine the authority of the Rajya Sabha and set a dangerous precedent for how public officials should be treated.
