Srinagar : The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) office bearers, headed by President Javid Ahmad Tenga, met with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar to discuss the current state of various sectors of the Jammu & Kashmir economy. LG Sinha warmly welcomed the team and praised the KCCI’s role in contributing to the state’s economy.
During the meeting, a comprehensive memorandum was presented to the Lt Governor, which covered a broad range of topics. These included the promotion of tourism, the creation of district-level handicraft clusters, the need for labelling and quality control, reduction of GST on handicrafts, and the revival of the industrial sector. Other issues discussed encompassed horticulture, environmental conservation, and city infrastructure development.
The Lt Governor appreciated the issues raised by the KCCI and assured the delegation that each issue would be meticulously reviewed for early resolution. He also advised the KCC&I to make efforts for the development of women in business.
However, the Lt Governor expressed concern over a large number of complaints about overcharging, misguiding, harassment, and sale of fake items to tourists. He urged the KCCI to ensure that stakeholders adopt fair trade practices and avoid such issues. The Lt Governor warned that the government would take strict action against those involved in such malpractices.
Overall, the meeting between the KCCI and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha was productive, with both sides addressing various concerns and discussing strategies for the development of Jammu & Kashmir’s economy while also ensuring fair trade practices are in place.
