Kerala Polls: CM Pinarayi Vijayan Rebuts Congress’ ‘CPM-BJP Nexus’ Allegations

Vijayan alleges Congress-BJP nexus, cites 2016 Nemom result to counter Opposition claims

THIRUVALLA (KERALA), March 23: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday dismissed allegations of a tacit understanding between the CPI(M) and the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections, instead accusing the Congress of having a history of covert ties with the saffron party.

Responding to claims made by Opposition leaders, including V. D. Satheesan, Vijayan denied any arrangement between the Left and the BJP in key constituencies such as Palakkad. He asserted that the CPI(M) has consistently maintained a firm stance against the RSS and the BJP.

Turning the criticism back on the Congress, Vijayan cited the 2016 Nemom Assembly election, alleging that a drop in Congress votes had facilitated the BJP’s victory in the constituency. He described it as part of a broader political understanding aimed at influencing electoral outcomes.

The chief minister also accused the Congress leadership, including Rahul Gandhi, of acting in ways that indirectly benefit the BJP in various political situations. He referred to past instances and alleged alignments to support his claims.

Amid the political exchange, Vijayan reiterated that the Left Democratic Front has remained ideologically opposed to both the BJP and the RSS, rejecting the Opposition’s accusations as baseless.

He also touched upon governance issues, stating that Kerala has made progress despite financial constraints, while alleging that the Centre has not provided the state its due share of resources.

The remarks come as political tensions rise ahead of the Assembly elections, with both ruling and opposition camps intensifying their campaigns and sharpening their attacks.
