Dubai, Sept. 15: India fast bowler Kranti Gaud has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the International Cricket Council’s Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka.
The incident occurred after Gaud dismissed Sri Lankan opener Imesha Dulani during India’s 72-run victory in the final on Sunday. The Indian pacer made a gesture towards the batter as she left the field, which was deemed a Level 1 offence under the ICC Code of Conduct.
Gaud admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. The decision was taken by match referee Supriya Rani Das, with the on field officials confirming the incident.
The penalty came shortly after India produced a dominant performance to secure a record eighth Women’s Asia Cup title. India posted 183 before dismissing Sri Lanka for 111, completing a convincing 72-run victory.
The tournament triumph provided India with strong momentum ahead of the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, where the women’s team will seek another gold medal.
The disciplinary action does not affect India’s title, but serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining sporting conduct even during high-pressure international matches.
