Lalu Family Turmoil Intensifies: Rohini Acharya Appeals for Government Protection of Daughters’ Rights in Parental Home

Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter calls for systemic reforms to ensure parental homes remain safe for women, highlighting deepening family tensions

Bihar, Dec 12 : Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, has urged the Nitish Kumar-led government to take decisive steps to protect daughters’ rights within their parental homes. Her statement has reignited attention on the ongoing familial discord.

In a post on X on Thursday, Rohini emphasized that daughters should feel secure in their parental homes, able to return without fear, shame, or judgment. She pointed out that while government welfare initiatives for women are commendable, they fail to address the entrenched social and gender inequalities that limit women’s freedom and security.

Acknowledging schemes such as the Rs 10,000 cash support and cycle distribution for women, Acharya said these measures are insufficient in tackling systemic patriarchal structures. “The government and society must take concrete steps to ensure equal rights for daughters, especially in the face of social and familial apathy,” she wrote.

Rohini stressed that creating protective mechanisms for women is not only an administrative responsibility but also critical in preventing future harassment and exploitation. She highlighted the persistent patriarchal mindset in Bihar that continues to restrict women socially, politically, and personally.

Family tensions surface amid political fallout
Rohini’s appeal comes weeks after she publicly announced her exit from politics and disowned her family, citing harassment by her brother Tejaswi Yadav and his associates. She alleged being forced out of the family home and subjected to verbal abuse and threats following RJD’s poor performance in the recent Bihar Assembly elections.

On November 15, she stated, “I have no family. You can ask Sanjay Yadav, Rameez, and Tejaswi Yadav—they are the ones who threw me out, disgraced, abused, and even hit me.” Her remarks underlined the deepening strain within the Yadav family, while also emphasizing the need for systemic measures to protect women in similar situations.

The issue has now sparked broader discussions on daughters’ rights and the responsibilities of both family and government in safeguarding women within domestic spaces.
