Landslides and Shooting Stones: Maintenance Work Halts Traffic on Jammu-Srinagar Highway

Srinagar/Jammu, 11-03-2024 : The Jammu-Srinagar national highway remains closed for traffic as of Monday, marking the second consecutive day of suspension. Traffic department officials have issued a notice stating that no vehicles will be permitted to travel along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway until further notice. This decision comes in light of ongoing maintenance activities aimed at repairing damaged stretches and widening the carriageway at certain sections. The closure, initiated at 10 p.m. on Saturday, was necessitated by the need to address the extensive damage caused by landslides and shooting stones along the highway, particularly between Banihal and Ramban.

In addition to the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar highway, several other key routes remain impassable due to adverse weather conditions. The Srinagar-Leh, Mughal Road, Sinthan-Kishtwar, Doda-Chamba, Bandipora-Gurez, and Kupwara-Tangdhar roads are all currently snowbound and inaccessible to traffic. Travelers are advised to refrain from undertaking journeys along these routes until further updates are provided by the relevant authorities.
