New Delhi, 04-02-2025: The World Book Fair in New Delhi witnessed a significant moment in the field of literary translation with the launch of the Dogri version of the renowned Hindi poetry collection Jitthun Tagar Nazar Jandi Ai, originally authored by eminent satirist and literary figure Lalitya Lalit. This translation, undertaken by distinguished Dogri writer and translator Yashpaul Nirmal, represents a noteworthy effort to promote linguistic and literary inclusivity by making contemporary Hindi poetry accessible to Dogri-speaking audiences.
The launch event was attended by several prominent literary figures and scholars, including Keshav Mohan Pandey, Convener of the Sarv Bhasha Trust; the original author, Lalitya Lalit; Dr. Harisuman Bisht, former Secretary of the Hindi Academy, Government of Delhi; Prof. Rajesh Kumar, former Director of the National Open School, Government of India; Ranavijay Rao, Joint Director of the Lok Sabha Secretariat; and Punjabi poet and translator Tarindra Kaur, along with Soni Laxmi Rao. Their presence underscored the importance of interlingual literary exchange and the role of translation in preserving and disseminating literary heritage.
During the event, Lalitya Lalit emphasized the role of translation as a crucial literary mechanism that fosters cultural dialogue and bridges linguistic divides. He lauded Yashpaul Nirmal’s dual contributions as both an original writer and a translator across multiple languages, acknowledging the significant impact of his work in strengthening regional literature.
