Mumbai, Feb 13 : Actor Ranveer Singh and filmmaker Rohit Shetty have reportedly received fresh threats allegedly linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s network, triggering an intensified police probe and tighter security around the Bollywood star.
According to officials, the warning is believed to have been issued by Harry Boxer, described as an associate of the Bishnoi gang, shortly after the duo approached police with a complaint.
Threat message raises alarm
Investigators said the message contained disturbing claims, asserting that neither the actor nor his future generations could challenge the gang. It allegedly referenced sensitive personal details, including residential information, daily schedules, and addresses of close aides — a factor that has heightened security concerns.
The sender is also said to have cautioned that managers could be targeted if the actor and director failed to comply with the warning.
Extortion angle under scanner
The Mumbai Crime Branch has traced a WhatsApp voice note demanding ₹1 crore, reportedly sent to the actor’s manager. Early findings suggest the voice could belong to Boxer, though forensic analysis is underway to confirm the identity.
The audio surfaced after a firing episode reported outside Shetty’s residence, which investigators are examining for possible connections.
Foreign VPN complicates investigation
Officials revealed that the threat was transmitted using a virtual private network traced to an overseas location. Authorities are now coordinating with Interpol to determine the origin of the message and identify those involved.
Meanwhile, security around Singh has been strengthened as a precautionary measure.
Wider probe gathers momentum
As part of the investigation, statements have been recorded from individuals associated with actor Aayush Sharma, who is related to Bollywood star Salman Khan. Police are working to establish whether the threats form part of a broader extortion network targeting film personalities.
Authorities continue to track digital evidence while expanding the probe to uncover the full extent of the alleged criminal linkages.
