Ayodhya, Oct 15: Forest Department officials successfully captured a leopard that had been roaming the Dogra Regiment Cantonment area of Ayodhya for the past year, bringing relief to residents and authorities alike.
According to District Divisional Forest Officer Prakhar Gupta, the team tranquilized and sedated the leopard before safely caging it. “Once we receive official orders, the leopard will be released into a large forest area,” Gupta said.
Local residents had repeatedly reported sightings of the leopard to the district administration, Cantonment Board, and Army officials over the past year.
On Tuesday morning, the leopard was spotted trapped in an iron wire net set up by the Army. Cantonment Station Officer Pankaj Singh and his police team quickly reached the site and alerted the Forest Department. Officers, led by DFO Gupta, arrived shortly after, sedated the animal, and placed it in a secure cage.
The capture ends a year long period of anxiety for residents in the cantonment area, ensuring both human and wildlife safety.
