LeT Suspect Nabbed in Delhi’s Ghazipur Area, Say Police

Probe reveals alleged foreign links and recovery of multi-country currency during Special Cell operation

New Delhi, Mar 30: The Special Cell of Delhi Police has apprehended a suspected member linked to the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba from the Ghazipur area of the national capital, officials confirmed on Monday.

The accused, identified as Shabbir Ahmad Lone, is believed to have been functioning as part of a sleeper network and was allegedly involved in placing provocative and anti national posters at several locations across the city. Authorities stated that his activities had been under surveillance before the arrest was carried out.

According to preliminary findings, investigators suspect that the network was being directed with support from Inter Services Intelligence. During the operation, officials recovered currency notes from multiple countries, including India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh, raising further concerns about cross-border connections.

Lone, also known by aliases Raja and Kashmiri, hails from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir and has a prior record. He was earlier arrested in 2007 with a significant cache of arms and explosives and remained in Tihar Jail until 2018.

Sources further indicated that he may have established links with individuals such as Hafiz Saeed and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, and is suspected to have undergone training in Muzaffarabad, located in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The accused is currently being interrogated as agencies continue to investigate the extent of the network and any potential threats linked to his activities.
