Srinagar, Oct 16: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday inaugurated the Veshaw Literary Festival in Kulgam through video conferencing, highlighting the active engagement of Jammu and Kashmir’s youth with the nation’s history, values, and aspirations.
“Today’s youth are building strong bonds with diversity, heritage, and shared cultural identity, contributing to nation-building,” the LG said, emphasizing the importance of literature in shaping societal perspectives.
The two-day festival brings together writers, artists, and readers to discuss books, share new ideas, and promote a wide range of creative works. It also provides a platform for women writers and young authors to showcase their talents while celebrating the region’s unique spirituality and cultural significance.
“Kulgam represents a confluence of nature, spirituality, culture, and literature, reflecting Jammu and Kashmir’s rich heritage,” Sinha said, acknowledging the influence of prominent regional literary figures on generations of readers.
The LG stressed the importance of nurturing young talent, stating that literature, alongside science and spirituality, is a vital force for societal progress. He urged writers and poets to enrich folk traditions, strengthen social harmony, and address pressing public issues, while also countering false narratives and presenting a brighter reality to the new generation.
The inaugural ceremony saw participation from Mohd Afzal Parray, Chairman District Development Council Kulgam; Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Javid Iqbal Matoo, DIG SKR Anantnag; Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam; Anayat Ali Choudhary, SSP Kulgam; Prof. (Dr.) Mohd Abass Shah, Principal, GDC Kulgam; along with senior officials, prominent literary personalities, and enthusiastic youth.
