Jammu, 12-03-2026: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday spoke to former Chief Minister and National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah following the firing incident at a wedding function in Jammu and assured him that the matter would be investigated thoroughly and with full seriousness. Dr Abdullah, 88, had a narrow escape on Wednesday night when a gunman allegedly opened fire from behind while he was leaving a marriage function in the Greater Kailash area on the outskirts of Jammu. Security personnel present at the venue reacted swiftly, intercepted the assailant and ensured the immediate evacuation of Dr Abdullah from the spot, preventing what could have turned into a far more serious incident.
According to sources, the Lieutenant Governor directed Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the full facts of the case and to ensure that the investigation proceeds quickly and effectively. Reports said he told investigators that he had been waiting for an opportunity to target Dr Abdullah for nearly two decades, a claim that has added to the gravity of the case and intensified concerns over personal and political security in the region.
