Srinagar, Feb 26: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday called on graduating students of the University of Kashmir to harness their education for nation building, emphasising that true learning must develop character, competence, and commitment. Addressing the 21st Convocation, Sinha said the ceremony represents not just the awarding of degrees but the shaping of responsible citizens capable of contributing to society’s progress. He congratulated medal winners, scholars, faculty, and parents for fostering academic excellence.
Women Lead the Way
Highlighting women’s achievements, Sinha noted that 186 of 249 gold medals and 108 of 164 PhDs were secured by female students, reflecting a shift in social dynamics. He stressed that equal opportunities enable women to excel and lead across disciplines, setting benchmarks for future generations.
Adapting to a Changing World
Sinha underscored the importance of adaptability in a rapidly evolving global landscape marked by artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and technological advancements. He urged graduates to embrace interdisciplinary learning and continuous skill development to stay relevant, adding, “Learning cannot end with a degree. It must become a lifelong pursuit.”
Ethics and Innovation
The Lieutenant Governor stressed the responsible use of emerging technologies, noting that AI and digital tools must be guided by moral judgment and human intelligence. Graduates were encouraged to view innovation as an opportunity to drive progress rather than a challenge to overcome.
Education for Nation-Building
Calling education the most powerful instrument of transformation, Sinha reminded students of their responsibility toward society and the country. “When you dedicate your knowledge and skills to the nation, you strengthen both yourself and India,” he said, expressing confidence that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir will play a key role in shaping the nation’s future.
