Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai Assumes Command of Chinar Corps, Pledges Commitment to Peace and Development in Kashmir

14-06-2023 : In a significant development, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai has taken charge of the strategically important Chinar Corps based in Kashmir. Assuming command on Wednesday, Lieutenant General Ghai paid homage to the brave soldiers at the Chinar Corps Memorial in Badami Bagh Cantonment, Srinagar. As he addressed and interacted with the troops, he emphasized the need for unwavering dedication and perseverance in their mission to establish peace and stability in the region.

During his address, Lieutenant General Ghai encouraged all ranks to go the extra mile in connecting with the local citizens, recognizing their crucial role in jointly working towards peace and development. He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between the military and the community to achieve lasting peace and prosperity.

Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai brings with him an impressive military career spanning over 33 years. He was commissioned into the esteemed Kumaon Regiment in December 1989 after completing his training at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. Throughout his career, he has held several prestigious command, staff, and instructional appointments, showcasing his expertise and leadership skills. Notably, he has served as Colonel General Staff in a division engaged in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir, and as Brigadier at the Military Operations Directorate in Army Headquarters.

Having commanded a battalion in the Western Sector, followed by a brigade and a division on the Northern Borders, Lieutenant General Ghai has demonstrated his operational acumen in various challenging terrains. He is a distinguished graduate of the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, Tamil Nadu, and has also completed the Higher Command Course at the Army War College in Mhow and the National Defence College in New Delhi. Before assuming his current role, he held a key appointment in the Northern Command as Major General Staff.

Expressing his greetings to the people of Kashmir, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai reiterated his commitment to work closely with the civil administration and society to advance the cause of peace and prosperity in the region. He expressed optimism about the improved security parameters in the Valley and the positive impact of the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control on the overall security situation.
