Srinagar, Dec 22: Light rain or snowfall is likely in parts of Jammu and Kashmir till Tuesday morning as another weak western disturbance is expected to influence the region, a weatherman said on Monday.
The recent weather pattern across the Union Territory has largely remained in line with forecasts, with no snowfall reported in the plains due to relatively higher temperatures.
Director Meteorological Department, Mukhtar Ahmad Keng, said the main weather system has already moved out of the region. However, the influence of a fresh western disturbance could trigger light rain or snowfall in some areas between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, particularly in parts of north Kashmir.
He said that if precipitation occurs in the plains during the night hours, it could fall as snow as temperatures are expected to dip.
Overall, Keng said weather models do not indicate any significant precipitation across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir. “However, considering the moisture left behind by the earlier western disturbance, there remains a slight possibility of some activity, especially in the higher reaches,” he added.
