‘Lion King’ Broadway Star Imani Smith Dies After Stabbing Boyfriend in Custody

Young actress, known for playing Young Nala, found dead in New Jersey Jordan Jackson Small arrested in connection with her homicide.

New Jersey, Dec 25: Broadway mourns the loss of Imani Smith, the talented young actress who played Young Nala in Disney’s The Lion King. Authorities are investigating her death as a homicide following a stabbing incident in Edison, New Jersey, on December 21.

Tragic Incident
Officials from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office reported that Imani was found with stab wounds. She was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, but doctors were unable to save her.

Arrest Made
Police arrested Jordan D. Jackson- Small, Imani’s boyfriend, who knew her personally. Jackson-Small was taken into custody without resistance and now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder. He is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Centre as the investigation continues.

Remembering Imani
Family and friends remember Imani for her warmth, energy, and extraordinary talent. Her aunt, Kira Helper, described her as a passionate performer whose love for singing, dancing, and acting shone on stage and in life. Imani is survived by her three year old son, her parents Monique Rance-Helper and Rawni Helper, her aunt, and two younger siblings. A GoFundMe has been set up to support her grieving family, with a fundraising goal of $55,000.
