New Delhi, Dec 19: The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Friday, marking the conclusion of the 19-day Winter Session of Parliament. During 15 sittings, the House saw the passage of several significant Bills and engaged in discussions on key national issues.
Among the landmark legislations, a Bill to open up the civil nuclear sector for private companies was approved, alongside the VB-G RAM G Bill, which replaces the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and guarantees 125 days of employment for rural workers. The latter was passed amid strong opposition protests, including the tearing of papers.
The House also debated topics such as the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram and proposed election reforms, which witnessed a politically charged atmosphere. Meanwhile, a Bill establishing a higher education regulator was referred to a joint committee of both Houses, and a new market securities code Bill was introduced and sent to a department-related standing committee for further examination.
As soon as the House convened on Friday, Speaker Om Birla adjourned proceedings sine die. The Speaker highlighted that the session achieved a productivity rate of 111 percent.
