‘Madness’: Zelenskyy Claims Russia Losing 1,000 Troops Daily Since December to Prolong Ukraine War

Ukrainian President urges US, Europe and global partners to unite against Moscow as Russia launches massive drone and missile attacks amid harsh winter.

Ukrain, Jan 12 : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday claimed that Russia has been losing at least 1,000 soldiers every day since December, describing the scale of losses as “madness” and accusing Moscow of sacrificing lives simply to prevent the war from ending.

Calling for a united international response, Zelenskyy urged the United States, Europe and Ukraine’s global partners to act together to stop Russia’s aggression.

“Right now, Russian losses amount to no less than 1,000 killed per day  and this has been the case since December. This is how Russia is essentially paying just to keep the war from ending. This is madness and it can only be stopped by combined forces – the forces of Europe and the United States, the forces of all our partners,” Zelenskyy said.

He warned that the prolonged conflict exposes the world’s inability to restrain violent regimes. “Every day of this war is a reminder that the world cannot protect itself from madmen. We must protect it. Russia must be stopped,” he added.

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to countries supporting Ukraine with military and humanitarian assistance, stressing that continued backing is crucial for the country’s defence and recovery.

“Thank you to everyone who stands with Ukraine! Thank you to everyone who helps our people, our defence, and our recovery! Glory to Ukraine!” he said.

His remarks came after one of Russia’s largest aerial assaults in recent months. Zelenskyy said Moscow launched a massive overnight attack involving 242 drones, 13 ballistic missiles and 22 cruise missiles, targeting Kyiv and several other regions.

At least four people were killed and dozens injured, with civilian infrastructure and energy facilities damaged during a period of severe cold. Zelenskyy said four deaths were reported in Kyiv alone, including a member of an ambulance crew.

Emergency services continued rescue and repair operations across affected areas, including Kyiv and the Lviv region. He also alleged that a second strike hit a residential building while first responders were already assisting victims at the scene.
