Maharashtra, Oct 25 : Satara police on Saturday arrested Prashant Bankar, one of the two accused in the alleged suicide of a 29 year old woman doctor from Phaltan taluka, Satara district. Bankar is expected to be produced before a local court later today.
Police sub-inspector (PSI) Gopal Badane, the second accused, remains on the run, with authorities actively trying to locate him. The doctor was found hanging in a hotel room on Thursday night. A note written on her palm in Marathi reportedly alleged that PSI Badane had raped her four times, while Bankar had subjected her to months of physical and mental harassment.
The victim, a contractual medical officer at a government hospital, had been residing in Satara for work. Following the allegations, PSI Badane has been suspended. Police sources confirmed that both the victim and the suspended officer were from Beed district and shared a familial relation.
