India, Nov 14 : Amateur sensation Mahreen Bhatia produced a dazzling performance with an eagle on the par-4 14th and a blistering 6-under back nine, seizing a two shot lead after the second round of the 15th Leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour (WPGT) 2025 at the Jaypee Wishtown Golf Course on Thursday.
Mahreen, a multiple podium finisher at the US Kids World Championship, carded a superb 5-under 66, featuring an eagle and four birdies against a lone bogey on the back nine. Adding to her opening-round 68, she stands at 8-under 134 after 36 holes, topping a strong field packed with seasoned winners.
Five time 2025 champion Vani Kapoor stayed in contention with a composed 67, finishing birdie-birdie to sit second at 6-under 136, two strokes behind Mahreen. Two time winner this year Sneha Singh (68-70) is third at 4-under 138, while a resurgent Jahanvi Bakshi (72-68) climbed to fourth at 2-under 140. Only four players remained under par after two rounds, in stark contrast to the 10 under-par efforts recorded on the opening day.
The tougher course conditions on Day 2 yielded just four under-par rounds, with only two players managing even-par scores.
A four-way tie for fifth emerged between amateur Saanvi Somu (71-71), Kriti Chowhan (71-71), Anvitha Narender (69-73), and experienced pro Ridhima Dilawari (69-73). Another group of four Yashita Raghav, Ananya Garg, Heena Kang, and first-round leader Lavanya Jadon shared ninth place.
Earlier in the round, as the leaders approached the turn, as many as six players were tied at 3-under, before Mahreen surged ahead. Three straight birdies from the 10th to 12th set the stage for her spectacular eagle on the 14th. She capped her electrifying back nine with a closing birdie, signing off with a 6-under 29 on the inward stretch.
Kapoor, chasing her sixth title of the season, shot a solid but slightly erratic card with three birdies on each side offset by a bogey on each nine. Sneha Singh mixed four birdies with three bogeys for a 70, while Jahanvi returned a clean 3 under 68, all birdies coming on the back nine.
The cut was applied at 10-over 152, leaving 24 players to compete in Friday’s final round. Notable names to miss the cut included Shweta Mansingh, Neha Tripathi, and Vidhatri Urs.
