Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department issues fresh posting orders to enhance administrative efficiency across Jammu and Kashmir.

JAMMU, June 15: In a significant administrative exercise, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered a fresh round of postings and transfers in the Legal Metrology Department, shifting 10 Assistant Controllers to new assignments across the Union Territory.

The transfer orders were issued by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs with immediate effect. Officials said the move has been undertaken to streamline departmental functioning and strengthen administrative operations in various districts.

According to an official order, the affected officers have been reassigned to different locations and divisions where their services are expected to contribute to improved implementation of legal metrology regulations and consumer protection measures.

The reshuffle forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure efficient governance and optimize manpower deployment within key public service departments. The Legal Metrology Department plays a crucial role in maintaining accuracy in weights and measures, monitoring trade practices, and safeguarding consumer interests across the region.

Sources in the department indicated that the latest transfers are aimed at improving field-level supervision, enhancing accountability, and ensuring effective enforcement of statutory provisions relating to commercial transactions.

The concerned officers have been directed to report to their new places of posting without delay. Departmental authorities have also instructed all field offices to facilitate a smooth transition and ensure that routine work remains unaffected during the transfer process.

Administrative observers noted that periodic transfers are a standard practice aimed at bringing fresh perspectives to departmental operations while strengthening service delivery mechanisms. The latest order is expected to further improve coordination among field units and help the department achieve its regulatory objectives more effectively.

With the implementation of the transfer order, the Legal Metrology Department is set to continue its focus on consumer welfare, transparency in trade practices, and strict enforcement of standards governing weights and measures throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
